Sophia, Holy Wisdom, is a symbol of divine knowledge, understanding, and insight. She is depicted in iconography as a crowned woman with wings or outstretched arms, often holding a book or a scroll. Her name comes from the Greek word for wisdom, and she has been venerated as a sacred figure in both Eastern and Western Christian traditions. Sophia is often associated with the Holy Spirit and is seen as a mediator between God and humanity, offering guidance and illumination to those who seek her wisdom. Her icon is a powerful symbol of the pursuit of knowledge and spiritual enlightenment.

Students will be led step-by-step in the painting the holy image of  Sophia, Holy Wisdom. Daily prayers and discussion will enrich the experience of prayerfully painting or "writing" the icon into being. 

All levels of experience welcome!

Class will be conducted live on Zoom. Recordings of each session will be made available for participants via Google Classroom. 

 

​This icon will be painted on a 8x10" board. A prepared board will be provided along with instructional materials and gold leaf. First-time students have the option to purchase an Introductory Kit for $12 (recommended). See Essential Supplies for details.
